Support for Math TEKS, K-5
A Resource for Assessment & Instruction
This NEW online resource supports Texas educators in teaching a focused mathematics curriculum by grouping the individual math TEKS into rich Units of Study. Problem-solving tasks have been developed to address the big mathematical ideas within each Unit.
This supplemental material is designed to engage students and develop their abilities to reason and communicate mathematically as well as to formulate mathematical connections.
K-5 Material Features:
To assist Texas educators in teaching a focused mathematics curriculum, Exemplars has grouped the individual math TEKS student expectations into rich Units of Study. Our real-world math tasks engage students and are designed to support the TEKS and STAAR.
The instructional tasks in this program are differentiated to include a 'more accessible' and 'more challenging' version. There are 4 or more instructional tasks provided for each Unit of Study.
Summative assessments are provided for each Unit of Study. The corresponding anchor papers and scoring rationales demonstrate student work and identify strengths as well as areas for growth in accordance with the Exemplars assessment rubric.
Preliminary Planning Sheets provide a useful lesson planning guide for teachers. Math Concepts, Problem-Solving Strategies, Math Vocabulary/Symbolic Representation, Possible Solutions and Mathematical Connections are outlined for each task.
Exemplars rubrics provide clear guidelines for assessing student work. Our assessment rubric strongly supports the TEKS Mathematical Process Standards. Student rubrics are also included. These may be used to develop a child's ability to self- and peer-assess.
Each task is aligned to the TEKS Mathematical Process Standards.
