Step-by-Step Overview
Here is an overview of the steps you'll take in making a sample assessment. Each page will have a number bar like above. The current step is indicated in orange. If you need to go back, you can click on previous numbers to review your steps.
Click on the pop-up list above/right and choose the appropriate subject and grade level to begin the assessment.
Study the general rubric to use as a guide for your assessment. If you are comfortable with the rubric, you can jump to step 3.
Read the sample problem carefully and solve it. As you solve the problem, think about the rubric. For example what does it mean to understand. What is a strategy? How do you communicate your reasoning?
Choose one of four random student sample responses.
Study the student's solution, keeping in mind the rubric. When you have made a determination, choose Novice, Apprentice, Practitioner or Expert from the provided pop-up list and submit your assessment.
You'll be taken to the results page for that particular solution, showing your response, Exemplars' Assessment and a task-specific rubric, and annotated version of the children's solution. From here you can choose to view a chart showing how other online visitors evaluated the same student's work.
You can choose to assess another sample from the same subject and grade level, choose a new subject and grade level, or exit the online assessment.
