Background:

Cornelis (Kees) de Groot, is the editor of "Secondary Math Exemplars 7-12" and has been an education consultant for more than 10 years. He is an assistant professor of Mathematics Education, at the State University of New York in New Paltz. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at New York University.

Kees taught mathematics in the Netherlands before immigrating to the United States. He has more than 22 years of teaching experience in education. Currently, he specializes in curricular, instructional and assessment issues.

Kees has been a speaker, workshop leader and presenter at numerous local, regional, statewide and national conferences including: the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education, National Education Computer Conference, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, American Education Research Association, IBM K-12 and Exemplars.

Kees has been the director of the New York State K-8 Mathematics Mentor Network since 1999, which is funded by a Title IIA Teacher Leader Quality Partnership grant.
