Math Institutes K-8

Exemplars Institutes are hosted by Exemplars. The locations, topics and dates change annually.

The 2008 Summer Math Institutes will be held in Georgia. Participants will learn how to effectively use rubrics, assess student work and teach problem solving with Exemplars differentiated performance material.

The following 2-day sessions will be offered in Norcross, GA:

  • Introductory Math Workshop: June 3-4
    (for first-time attendants)
  • Level 2 Math Workshop: June 5-6
    (for returning attendants)

Both sessions are designed to improve assessment, instruction and student performance.

Exemplars Math and Science Institutes help schools and districts meet standards by:

  • Using rubrics to gain a deeper understanding of why students are performing at their current levels
  • Using assessment results to help students achieve at higher levels
  • Gaining a better understanding of how multiple state standards can be achieved using rich open-ended tasks

The emphasis is on practical, hands-on experience using classroom-tested tasks, rubrics and anchor papers to improve assessment and instruction.

The Broad Agenda:

  • Using rubrics and anchor papers to assess students' work
  • Making the link from assessment to instruction
  • Developing and adapting assignments for the classroom
  • Using assessment results to improve performance
  • Meeting multiple standards, including GPS, using challenging problems
