Standards-based assessment and Instruction

Tools for Formative Assessment

Exemplars publishes standards- based performance material in math, science and writing to help teachers integrate formative assessment into their classrooms.

Our rubrics, anchor papers and performance tasks provide material that teachers can use for assessment and that students can use for peer- and self-assessment. These tools can help teachers define for students what type of performance meets the standard.

Student rubrics and annotated anchor papers can also be used by students to compare their work to during peer- and self-appraisals. This process demonstrates success as well as offers opportunities for refinement. Based on student performance, teaching and learning strategies can be adjusted.

For more information, check out the formative assessment section of our web site and our free samples.

Our teacher-friendly tasks are designed to support both the Common Core and Citywide instructional expectations. GO Math! alignments are also available.

Here's What People Are Saying

Embedding Common Core aligned Exemplars tasks into our units of study has strengthened teachers understanding of the Common Core Learning Standards while improving student performance. Significant growth in student achievement has taken place across the grades in the Mathematical Practices ... even our youngest students do the work of real mathematicians to represent and solve authentic real-world problems.
