Developing Writers, K-4

This is an introductory workshop designed for educators who are becoming familiar with teaching writing to young children.

Participants will gain an understanding of the four qualities of writing and how to teach these qualities using literature. Instruction will include whole-class and guided lessons using The Painted Essay™ and other techniques used for a quick assessment of student ability.

Broad Agenda

  • Using rubrics and anchor papers to assess student work
  • Linking assessment results to curriculum, instruction and improving student performance
  • Using writing to learn content such as inquiry science and social studies
  • Using literature to teach writing
